Wing Zone CEO and Co-Founder Matt Friedman leads the 108 unit chain and is poised for significant growth in the next few years. “I don’t know if we invented (calling it a pivot), but it’s not a rebrand,” he says. “You know what is is? For us it’s just a new focus.” Franchisees are seeing the benefit with the simplification of the menu so the system can focus on what they do best–which is serving great wings to it’s customers.

Wing Zone was the brainchild of hungry college students who started a wing delivery company out of their fraternity’s kitchen – and over the next 25 years, the brand has grown across nearly 20 states and opened their 20th international location this year. Recently, co-founder and CEO Matt Friedman was a guest on Cheddar to celebrate National Wing Day and discussed how the brand continues to stay competitive and expands through franchising. “I think one of the trends in our industry that is phenomenal for us and our growth is people want to bring stuff home. They want to sit and watch their 70″ TV and watch games and entertain people. So our business model has been very consistent over the last 20 years,” Friedman told Cheddar. Wing Zone is focused on growing in cities with a strong college presence or a military presence across the U.S. specifically in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
